Skip to the End by Molly James is a super cute contemporary romantic comedy with magical realism elements.
Amy inherited a bit of magic from her mother’s side of the family: as soon as she kisses someone, she has a vision of how their relationship will end. After years of trying, Amy has mostly given up and is perpetually single. Then, one of her friends dares her to kiss three men at her best friend’s wedding. Two were duds and one was perfect… if only she wasn’t too inebriated at the party to remember which!
This would make an amazing romcom movie. I had fun reading this, and ended up staying up late one night to finish it. I especially loved Amy’s friend group and the found family they had created.
There are some heavier topics explored here, namely focusing on Amy’s mom’s struggle with dementia. The author handled this topic with care, in my opinion.
I definitely called from the very beginning who her happily ever after would be, but that didn’t sap my enjoyment of the book. I’m excited to read more from this author–a pseudonym of an author who’s written 12 “escapist novels.”
If you liked the Bridget Jones series, you may like this book.
CW: alcohol use & abuse, light violence, parent with dementia
