If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy is a contemporary rom-com retelling of Cinderella.
I borrowed the audiobook from my local library while I was travelling, and Jen Ponton does a great job with the narration! I loved her inflection and laughed out loud several times both while on a plane and once I was home.
Cindy fills a last-minute spot on the reality dating show Before Midnight after graduating from undergrad thanks to the fact that her stepmother is the Executive Director. But hey, this exposure could kick-start her fashion designer career.
First things first, I really need to read more books by this author because I loved her sense of humor! Cindy is a great protagonist and I really identified with her in a lot of ways. The fat rep and body positivity here is chef’s kiss.
This was apparently Disney’s first foray into publishing adult romance. That makes sense to me, as it’s very closed-door and PG-13. I’d go so far as to call it New Adult.
I kind of wish we also got Henry’s POV here, and I would have loved to know how he was feeling.
Tropes in this book include: reality tv/competition, good fat rep, Cinderella retelling, forced proximity
