Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle is a contemporary romance featuring magical realism.
Daphne receives a slip of paper with a name and a length of time around the start of every one of her relationships. That is until one day when she receives a name, but no time.
The audiobook is narrated by Julia Whelan, and I think she did a phenomenal job. I really liked listening to Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez too, so she’s definitely joined my list of top tier audiobook narrators at this point.
I really enjoyed this book, and especially the author’s prose. I thought the plotting was pretty well done, though the pacing dragged a little about a third of the way in. We jump around between present time and past times around Daphne’s past relationships.
There were a few twists that I guessed ahead of time, but there was one that I really didn’t! I may be in the minority, but I liked the ending. But I do echo a statement I’ve seen around: we wanted more at the end. I don’t say this often, but I wanted this book to be longer.
I’m definitely going to check out other books by this author.
