The Worst Duke in London is the third book in the Taming of the Dukes historical romance series by Amalie Howard.
Lady Effie prefers animals to humans, and runs a sanctuary to help abandoned or hurt creatures. Gage, the new Duke of Vale inherited his brother’s massive gambling debt in addition to the ducal estate. To pay off his debt, he is instructed to charm Effie into going to London for the season so the man holding the note can attempt to court her younger sister.
This was a fun read! I loved Lady Effie and how independent she was, refusing to conform to the expectations of society. Her proffered deal to Gage includes one of my favorite historical romance tropes, so that was really fun to read. I really loved the chemistry between the two of them.
Effie (and many of her friends) share many modern sensibilities. This is a plus for me in some historical romances. If you’re not a fan of that, this may not be the series for you.
However, if you’re a fan of Bridgerton or 10 Things I Hate About You (aka Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew), you should absolutely check this one out!

When she had an opinion of worth, she gave it. It was a side effect of learning, she supposed. All that knowledge had to go somewhere.

- Always Be My Duchess (Pretty Woman/Pygmalion)
- Never Met a Duke Like You (Clueless)
- The Worst Duke in London (10 Things I Hate About You)
