Bad Luck Bride is a fun installment in the Scandal at the Savoy Victorian romance series by Laura Lee Guhrke.
I had fun with this one!
I listened to the audiobook while following along in my physical review copy. I though the narrator did a pretty great job, especially using distinctive voices between characters.
Though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. We’ve caught glimpses of both of our MCs in the previous books in the series, so I’ve been looking forward to their book.
The heroine from the previous book, Delia, shows up quite a bit in this one. I found that lovely because I adore her and her friendship with Kay. I also loved Kay’s relationship with her younger sister.
This installment is a mix of my most favorite and least favorite tropes: enemies to lovers (favorite) and miscommunication (least favorite). Though the miscommunication made sense logically, needless to say I was pretty happy once all the cards were on the table and everyone understood each other’s side of the story.
The pacing felt a little uneven for me, but there was a bunch of pining, which I do enjoy. It took us a while to get there, but I really enjoyed the end resolution.
Rep: older MCs (FMC is 32)
Tropes: second chance, enemies to lovers, miscommunication, spinster
