The Keeper of Magical Things is a cozy fantasy with romance elements by Julie Leong set in the same universe as The Teller of Small Fortunes.
This was a delightful read! I listened to the audiobook on Spotify while following along in my review copy. The narrator does a great job, and I had a lot of fun listening to them.
Though this is set in the same universe as The Teller of Small Fortunes, you don’t need to read that one before reading The Keeper of Magical Things. However, if you’d like to have a firmer grasp of what the overall world is like, you should read them in order.
I identified a lot with Aurelia, especially because I am a recovering perfectionist. I also identified a lot with Certainty; regarding not completely knowing what your future might hold. The cat dragon on the cover is a delight and I hope if we get future books set in this world we hear more about her.
Rep: queer (sapphic FMCs, at least one appears to be bisexual), author is the daughter of Malaysian Chinese immigrants
Tropes: forced proximity, workplace romance, class differences, found family, small town
