The Whole Cat and Caboodle is the charming start to the Second Chance Cat Mystery series by Sofie Ryan.

This was an enjoyable cozy mystery! For me, the pacing was sometimes a bit irregular and on rare occasions would pull me out of the action, but I still had a fun time reading.

Our main character, Sarah, owns a shop where she sells items she’s refurbished or repurposed. That was a huge hook for me, because I love DIY and to see items be used to the fullest extent possible. The other thing that was a huge hook for me was the black cat on the cover (and called out in the title)

Speaking of the devil, Elvis is a black cat who’s a little too intelligent for his own good. He reminds me of my heart cat Bartleby, who crossed the rainbow bridge a few years ago, mixed with the mischief of my current void, Olly (aka Olidammara). He is fantastic.

Other than cats, another thing I’m a sucker for in cozy mysteries is the found family trope, and this book has it in spades. It also leans hard into another favorite trope of mine in this genre: the small town. Our setting is an oceanfront town in Maine, and it’s as charming as you’d expect. I look forward to getting to know everyone more as I continue on with the series.

Tropes: found family, small town
