Thrown for a Loop is a delightful contemporary sports romance from Sarina Bowen featuring a former figure skating star now working for a professional hockey team as a coach.
When this first came across my radar, it piqued my interest because I absolutely loved the movie The Cutting Edge, and this book gave me those vibes, but backwards.
I listened to the audiobook, which has dual narration–something I always appreciate! Both narrators did a fantastic job.
There’s also dual-timelines, in the present when Zoe starts working as a skating coach for the professional hockey team where Chase is a star player, and ten years ago during the fateful summer they met. I especially loved the found family elements in the present setting, and I’m excited to read more about some of the other players!
I’m also very excited to dig into the author’s backlist, which is pretty extensive!
Tropes: second chance, dual timeline, dual narration, forced proximity, workplace romance, sports romance, slow burn
CW: bullying, body shaming, disordered eating, physical abuse (off-page) abandonment, death of parent (off-page, prior to book), alcoholism (off-page)
