Until It Was Love by Pippa Grant is a a contemporary rom-com featuring a rugby player and a life coach.

Goldie is a successful life coach who was previously an athlete until an injury sidelined her. She’s about to leave the country for a few months to fulfil a prestigious obligation. Fletcher made it big as a rugby player in England but now he’s joined Goldie’s brother’s local team.

Though it takes place in the same universe as previous books by the author, this one can be read as a standalone. This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be the last! The beginning was a little slow for me, but I was solidly into the story by the 25% mark. I laughed out loud several times throughout the book.

The chemistry between Fletcher and Goldie was pretty great. There are several spicy scenes and they were all well written with a great focus on consent.

I absolutely loved Goldie’s elderly friends who hang out and share fake obituaries for their ex-lovers. You could really tell how much that group cared for one another. Fletcher’s dog Sweetpea is also another highlight of the book.

Tropes in this book include: sports romance, brother’s teammate, opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, enemies to friends to lovers
