Buried in a Good Book by Tamara Berry is the first book in the cozy and charming By the Book Mysteries trilogy.

Our main character is a thriller writer who is going through a divorce. She and her daughter decide to check out the rustic cabin in the woods that she inherited from her grandfather for a little rest and relaxation (and to finish the book she’s behind deadline on). But then there are some explosions and it’s raining fish guts and maybe also a human arm.

I needed a palate cleanser after being emotionally wrecked by Glorious Exploits, and this was a great choice. I laughed out loud so many times during this book! The narrator, Tanya Eby, did a great job making me fall in love with all of the characters in this fictional small town in Washington state.

If you like books in books, this is one for you. Not only is the main character a successful author, there’s a cool bookmobile in town and one of the sheriff’s deputies has been secretly writing a sci-fi novel.
