The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a fun and steamy fantasy romance by Megan Bannen.

First things first, do not start with this book, please read the other books in this series in publication order. That’s very important.

This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and it did not disappoint. I pre-ordered the book from one of the author’s local indies, so it’s signed! And I also got a few extra goodies, like stickers and bookmarks. I followed along in my physical copy and listened to my audio review copy.

The audiobook has dual narration, and both narrators did phenomenal jobs. They really understood the assignment, and their comedic timing was perfect. They also were able to put the right amount of emotion in their tone throughout the book.

Things kick off with a time jump that I wasn’t expecting! I really got a kick out of Rosie, and Bannen’s sense of humor overall. It took me a little bit to warm up to Adam, but as he came out of his shell I really grew to love him as well. I guessed his true identity pretty early, but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of this book at all. It was fun watching Rosie figure it out, too.

We learn a lot more about the history of Tanria, and especially its folklore, in this installment. I love folklore and mythology so much that I minored in it in college, so I absolutely ate it up. I think I loved this one about as much as I loved the first book in this series, which I’ve reread several times.
